Rule/Ruled
Porcelain
2021 onwards
Rule can mean to draw a line, a prescribed guide, or being governed upon. The imagery for this work is derived from stationary used in educational space to learn to write and make meaning. Very early on we learn how to divide space within set increments on ruled paper and learn to think within the parameters set by the societies we grew up in.
What does it look like to start unraveling these frameworks and set the metaphorical line free? What happens if we look at things as they are rather than what we would like them to be? Can that even be done?
